Population Status of Black-Winged Stilt at Alaniya Dam of Kota District, Rajasthan

ABSTRACT
Aves are a fascinating group of animals that have captured the interest of researchers and the general public alike. Birds are unique among animals, with their ability to fly and the presence of feathers being two of their most distinctive features. The Black-winged Stilt (Himantopus himantopus) stands out as an intriguing subject due to its unique behaviour and adaptations throughout the breeding process. Present study was undertaken in Alaniya Dam of Kota district, Rajasthan with special reference to its population and breeding state including threats to its population. Study was conducted between October 2019 to November 2021. Regular monitoring revealed that during the whole study period, a total of 106 sighting was sighted consisting of 9834 individuals. Total 1013 individuals were observed between 2019-2020 with mean number of 13.15±0.54. 5179 total individuals were observed during the period of 2020-2021 with mean of 95.90±8.50. But this bird is acing great loss due to threat factors such as habitat fragmentation, fishing, cattle grazing, Pollution, fuel wood collection, draining of wetland and Invasion of water hyacinth etc.
